Random Questions

I was watching GoF today and wanted to comment that in GoF-Barty Croch Jr. is responsible for the torture of Neville's parents.....and in OOTP- Bellatrix Lestrange is responsible for torturing them.......I am going to go get my books and check, but has anyone else noticed that? Poor Neville's parents!!

Ok here is another random question:

I started watching the Star Wars series Sunday night (and no, i never watch it before! ) anyways, Nathalie Portman's character's name is Padmé. In HP, there is a Padma Patil character.... you think there is any relation between each other's names and the stars???? i didnt have the chance to look it up but maybe someone knows!?

What do you mean their names and the stars? i don't think theres any relation...

ok i knew that was going to come back and bite me in the butt! Oh well, I just wasnt a nerd when i was younger!!! :P But i sure am now! A nerd of movies and books anyways! hihi!

Anyways so i just thought that there names were very similar. Maybe Lucas (Star Wars) chose his names withing the stars like Jo (HP) did
Padmé/Padma....? No? Ok maybe im just crazy!

Well, there actually is a connection, if a very minor one. From what I've found, Padma and Padmé are both Sanskrit (one of various spoken languages from India) and they both, to some degree, mean "lotus" or "lotus flower". I'm not clear if the accent and change of the last letter in Padmé's name affects the meaning at all. In fact, that could be George Lucas's own doing, for all I know. Anyway, that's what I found. So no, J. K. and George didn't go hunting through star names for these particular characters. But your original hunch was somewhat correct, Roxy.

I'm sure since J. K. planned to make Parvati and Padma East Indian (their last name, Patil, is apparently a common Indian last name), she probably went looking for names that would properly reflect that fact. George Lucas, on the other hand, probably just went searching for exotic sounding names wherever he could find them and stumbled on "Padmé".

Another interesting thing I noticed today is...in PoA Snape makes the crew study about Vampires ahead of when they are suppose to....but in SS/PS, in a passing sentence right after they read the Chocolate Frog card with Nicolas Flamel on it, it says they are studying about vampires in DADA....interesting.
